As the warm summer months approach, it is important to try to plan ahead to stay cool. While we rely heavily on the air conditioning during the heat waves of the summer, running it all day to keep comfortable can be financially draining.
LinkUs is here to help with a few useful tips to keep yourself cool and your bank account full!
Keep your air conditioning system maintained throughout the year. When your system needs maintenance, it uses more energy and ultimately costs more to operate.
Close drapes and blinds throughout your house. Darker rooms stay cooler and lessen the demand on your air conditioner.
Plant trees and shrubs around the exterior of your house. This allows the plants outside to absorb the heat instead of your walls, keeping temperatures down naturally. You can tell everyone you are going green. Literally.
Keep those energy-efficient ceiling fans running! The moving air from the fan works with the evaporation from your skin, which keeps you cool.
Install an attic fan. Attic fans help to cool hot attics by drawing in cooler air from attic vents and pushing hot air to the outside.
Consider closing off rooms you don’t use frequently and cover the air ducts temporarily. There is no need to cool off areas you don’t plan on being in!
Lastly, install a programmable thermostat. Automation may seem intimidating, but starting small with a thermostat can help you save big! We’ll show you how to access it while you’re away at work, on vacation, or anywhere else you might be. That way, you can turn down your thermostat on your way home so it’s nice and cool by time you arrive. Or if you forget to turn it back up before you leave you won’t be sweating that huge electric bill!
